6 projected Day 2 targets for LA Rams in talent-packed draft
By Bret Stuter
With the 83rd overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, the LA Rams select . . .
If the team wishes to upgrade on offense, then former North Carolina WR Devontez Walker is a solid selection in Round 3. Devontez Walker stands just shy of 6-foot-2 and weighs 193 pounds. He is also blessed with blurring speed, and could be used in a variety of ways on offense and perhaps even compete for playing time on special teams. Unlike Legette, Walker never had a spike of production in a breakout year, but there is no question that his ability to catch the football has propelled his teammate, QB Drake Maye, to the top of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Walker is another receiver who is a natural fit playing for HC Sean McVay. Despite his blazing speed, he possesses an incredibly high football IQ. He does not just beat opponents by running past them (although he can), he uses his speed to set up dig routes, and has an uncanny knack of finding soft spots in zone coverage. Walker also has a nose for the endzone, puttijng up 18 touchdowns in his final two years of college football.
Perfectly slotted for this secondary
If the team wishes to select a solid prospect for the defense, then former Michigan defensive back Mike Sainristil is an ideal selection in Round 3. Standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 182 pounds, some teams will not objective appreciate what Sainristil can do in an NFL secondary. But the Rams, already boasting smaller DBs like Darious Williams and Tre Tomlinson, should have no problem recognizing his upside.
Sainristil is a former wide receiver who flipped to the defensive side of the football, and uses his offensive knowledge to quickly identify formations and plays as they develop in front of him. Due to his size and solid speed, Sainristil projecs as a slot cornerback who can insteantly compete for playing time. As it now stands, this defense needs a dependable slot cornerback.
Sainristil had an incredible final season in the Michigan defense, putting up 34 tackles, 1.0 quarterback sacks, broke up six passes, intercepted six passes, two of which he took to the house as pick-sixes. Because he has played both offense, defense, and special teams, Sainristil's intrinsic value in the right scheme could be immense.
