6 waived players who Rams fans are still buzzing about

II: Edge Malik Reed or Trevis Gipson
It is nearly impossible to consider recently Dolphins-waived outside linebacker Malik Reed and not be sucked into the what-if projections of lining him up on the same defensive front as LA Rams All-Pro Aaron Donald for the 2023 NFL season. He has all of the right qualities: He is 6-foot-2 and weighs 235 pounds. He showed tremendous promise at getting after the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, so much so that the Broncos traded veteran OLB Von Miller to the Rams in 2021 to give him more defensive snaps.
But he landed with the Steelers in 2022, and struggled to get snaps and quarterback sacks. Now, imagine having the chance to rejuvenate his career with the LA Rams as so many other edge rushers have before him?
In the same manner, the recently release of former Bears edge rusher Trevis Gipson sends the imagination rocketing into very positive projections. At 6-foot-4 and 263 pounds, Gipson is more of a Sherman tank coming off the end. Still, he appears to be on the decline after a career high 2021 NFL season.
Best of all, Gipson is entering his fourth and final year of his rookie contract, and won't be due a huge payday until next season. That should be enough to bring him aboard for the Rams defense, and move one of their fringe players to the practice squad.
I : QB Will Grier
While the underwhelming preseason performance of rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett did not dissuade the LA Rams from carrying him as their backup quarterback for the 2023 NFL season, the Rams clearly need more depth at the quarterback position than him alone.
But there is a quarterback who could make some sense to add to the LA Rams roster, a Cowboys quarterback who simply lambasted the Las Vegas Raiders defense.
QB Will Grier will not sign on the Rams practice squad. To get him, the Rams will need to sign him to an active 53-man roster slot, and I'm not certain that the Rams would do so.
And just like that, Grier is now rumored to be signing on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad.
Of course, nothing is official until it's official. That means that circumstances can change quickly. But as it stands now, if the Rams intend to add a quarterback to their practice squad, it likely will not be Will Grier.
Stay tuned, as the Rams roster is still ripe with sudden updates throughout the day today.
