VI: Kamren Curl could have Pro Bowl season in this defense

The soft buzz over free agent defensive back Kamren Curl is not soft any longer. There are so many coaches, teammates, fans and reporters showering Kamren Curl's presence in this defense that is almost feels like the marketing of a Hollywood hit movie release. But it's a compelling and infectious narrative, one that I am eager to see play out on the football field this season.

This is not just a typical warm and fuzzy glow about Curl. We passed that after just one day at training camp. This is the type of smug smile ala 'the cat that ate the canary,' variety, the sly secret that everyone knows but nobody is truly willing to say it.

Kamren Curl is such an incredible fit in this defense that he appears to have Pro Bowl potential. Already. One week of training camp.

I was flabbergasted at the about-face shown by the media this offseason. Prior to the 2024 NFL Free Agency market arrival, Curl was projected to be one of the hottest free agents on the market. Some projections had him topping $8-10 million per year. When the Rams were able to sign him to a two-year contract for $9 million, there was an immediate retreat from NFL soothsayers. Suddenly Curl was just fairly good, and the Rams secondary was a quagmire despite his addition.

They had it right the first time. Despite the uncanny discount, Kamren Curl is one of the hottest young defensive backs in the NFL, and he has found a perfect fit for his wide range of talents. Currently paired with arguable the best returning defensive back on the roster, Quentin Lake, this secondary appears to be far better than advertised.
