V: DB Tre White suddenly thrust into leadership role of secondary

Will he or won't he return to his All-Pro form? That is the question that 32 NFL teams asked themselves in the off-season about former Buffalo Bills All-Pro cornerback, Tre'Davious White. While it would be incredible if that did happen, the Rams have reconstructed their entire secondary so that success is not solely dependant upon it.

What the team does need is a healthy 2024 season for DB Tre White, and are taking it slow and steady to ensure that is what they get out of the venerable veteran:

But there are plans, and then there is reality.

The plan was to ease Tre White into this secondary at a pace that felt both comfortable and organic. But with a season-ending injury to DB Derion Kendrick, and a unfortunately time hamstring injury to veteran DB Darious Williams, the mantle of veteran cornerback now rests solely on the shoulders of Tre'Davious White.

And I am loving it.

White is a naturally gifted defensive back. But he has had a string of bad luck due to incessant injuries, and he is in a new NFL city with a new NFL team playing for new coaches and surrounded by new players. If he is forced to manage his workload consciously, all of those instinctive football skills fail to kick in.

Now, thrust into a leadership role in the secondary, he cannot prevent his instincts from taking over.

So many players added this offseason or are returning from last season have tremendous potential. And for the most part, Rams fans have exhibited superhuman patience and control over not being swept up in the what if scenarios should all the dominoes fall the right way. Tre White is one such domino who, if he plays to his potential, could be a dominant defensive back in 2024.

Now that training camp is underway, how much longer can Rams fans keep the lid on the excitement? In the case of Tre White, not for much longer. He appears to be as good as, if not better than, advertised.
