II: Jim Everett

While former Purdue quarterback James Everett was selected with the third overall pick in the 1986 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers, he would never throw a single pass for them throughout his entire NFL career. But he would throw plenty for the LA Rams. In fact, Jim Everett would become the most proficient passer in LA Rams franchise history.

But it wasn't a certainty when he first arrived. In fact, it was not even a sure thing that he would arrive. It required a very lucrative trade package to pry him away from the Oilers. After he arrived, he played behind Rams starting quarterback Steve Bartkowski. He also had to get past quarterback Steve Dils to earn his shot at starting. He did both in his first season with the Rams.

Much like QB Marc Bulger discussed before, Everett was a proficient Rams passer who was less than successful in terms of the win-loss record. In fact, despite averaging 222 yards per game, Everett's record with the Rams would end at 46 wins and 59 losses.

Everett would lead the Rams to the NFL Playoffs in 1986, 1988, and 1989 respectively, and hold a 2-3 playoff record with the Rams. After his Pro Bowl season in 1990, Everett's production waned, After 1993, he would play three seasons with the New Orleans Saints, and finished off his NFL career with one season for the San Diego Chargers.
