Behind the Grind: How LA Rams work to succeed in the NFL Draft
By Bret Stuter
Rams 2023 innovation: Sustainable success
Now, the LA Rams intend to create a sustainable success, a team that has the depth and talent to compete every year. That means that this team needs to generate talent that attracts and manufactures its own set of talents. This is a team that is designed to coach up raw young players, who will in turn be able to pivot their own attention to reach back and help new rookies to develop on the Rams roster.
So many new faces, and the LA Rams may not hit on all of their picks. But the Rams are backs-against-the-wall in terms of previous draft classes. Whether or not the Rams hit on all picks, the Rams simply need to land four or five starters. I believe that even at this early vantage point, the Rams have arguably accomplished that goal for the 2023 NFL season.
Rams are rebuilding a strong foundation
What I love about the LA Rams 2023 draft class is not simply the fact that the Rams addressed basic fundamental needs for the team, but that the Rams did so by trusting their instincts, staying home in many situations, and adding talent that will not just aid the team in 2023, but players who are likely to become foundational pieces for future success as well.
In many positional groups on the roster, the Rams had spent far less than the average NFL team so that the team could spend far more on their elite players. But the 2023 Rams roster feels like the team has invested in a more balanced roster, one that will be competitive on the offensive line, on the defense, and in special teams.
