Rams add a veteran to defensive front

The LA Rams defense has certainly bet heavily on a youth movement. With the exception of NT Bobby Brown III, the ream was exclusively rookies, or players returning for Year 2. Of course, Year 2 for DE Desjuan Johnson and NT Kovie Turner come with optimistic projections. But there is a lack of veteran presence on the roster. Well, was.

The team had to act quickly as they set their roster. Their high regard for rookie DE Anthony Goodlaw could not prevent him from injury, ending his season on IR. And DT Larrell Murchison, a player who was a contributor in the past, was injured but is expected to return in a month.

All of these factors combined into a need for Snead to act, which is exactly what he did.

The team signed interior defensive lineman Neville Gallimore. In one stroke, the team grafted four years of NFL experience into their defensive lineman room.

Gallimore is not going to threaten anyone for a starting role on the defense instantly. But if he realizes his full potential? Well, now we're talking. But we'll address that momentarily. Before we discuss potential, let's open up with some production discussion.

Neville Gallimore has been a steady factor in the Dallas Cowboys defensive rotation. Average 320 defensive snaps per season with limited special team participation, he is a rough and tough fireplug who is tough to move out of the way.

He seldom fails to make a tackle, missing no more than one tackle per season. Surprisingly, despite a limited rotational role, He has 4.0 quarterback sacks and many more quarterback pressures. Combine that with his 17 tackles for a loss, 38 quarterback pressures, and 90 tackles, and you've got a lot of production.

Best of all, Gallimore has some NFL starter experience, if the need arises.
