I'm still way behind on pertinent LA Rams topics, and I beg your patience. Almost immediately after the Rams fell, my temperature rose and I've been fight off the disease that shall not be named throughout the week. Of course, as is almost always the case, the Rams roll on, and I've done little more than tread water to the steady stream of new information that continues to pop up.
But some topics are pushing their way to the front of the queue, and rightfully so. One such 'madness of the maelstrom' topic is the latest iteration of the Rams starting offensive line, this week's iteration that was never so much on the drawing board throughout training camp and the preseason. But, here we are in Week 2, with a handful of healthy starters, and a goal to place the most competitive offensive line on the football field.
Right now, there is some solid progress in that direction taking place.
As of right now, two injured offensive linemen will hopefully suit up for the team in Week 2. As the final Rams injury report for Week 2 shows, the team expects both RT Rob Havenstein and RG Kevin Dotson to play in Week 2:
As that news is hopeful to the right side of the offensive line, what of the left side to the offensive line? Well, the plan is to slide backup swing tackle Warren McClendon Jr. to the left side and start as the blind side offensive tackle in Week 2.
As it now stands, the Rams most likely starting offensive line in Week 2 will look like this:
- LT Warren McClendon - (1st start LT) - backup OT Geron Christian
- LG Jonah Jackson - backup OG Logan Bruss
- C Beaux Limmer (1st start C) - backup Jonah Jackson/Dylan McMahon
- RG Kevin Dotson - backup OG Logan Bruss
- RT Rob Havenstein - backup OT Geron Christian
The team has a chance to play a bit better in Week 2. If the Rams players can compete the entire game without additional injuries, the Rams will build some desperately needed continuity to the group as Week 3 enters the picture. And with Week 3, the Rams will need to find to open slots on the active roster to restore both QB Jimmy Garoppolo and OT Alaric Jackson to the active roster.
Of course, any roster decisions impacting the 53-man Rams roster could have a domino effect on the practice squad as well.
