Rams trade TE Tyler Higbee to the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions would love to get a Jared Goff-friendly tight end, and veteran Tyler Higbee could be the ticket. He is a productive veteran, he can block and run routes, already has great chemistry with Lions quarterback Jared Goff, and has one year remaining on his contract. That means that he has no penalty if he simply does not work out.

The Lions are in striking distance of the NFL Playoffs and must pivot from focusing on drafting future prospects and consider adding veterans who can contribute now. They also have GM Brad Holmes, a former LA Rams executive, who knows the value of surrounding Lions quarterback Jared Goff with players who he knows and trusts.

Trade Tyler Higbee to the Lions is a Win Win scenario

It was Goff who put LA Rams TE Tyler Higbee on the map in December 2019, as the two connected for 522 yards and two touchdowns. And if Higbee is added to the Lions roster for 2023, there is no reason why he and Jared Goff could not repeat that this season. So how to get him on the Lions roster? A draft day trade, of course. One that looks like this:

In this exchange, the Detroit Lions reinforce their offense to reach even higher heights, add a Super Bowl-winning tight end to the roster, and do not lose the number of draft picks.

For the LA Rams, the trade frees up cap space (something the Rams are quite interested in doing), pick up a second pick in Round 2 for the cost of a Round 3 pick, and add a young veteran outside linebacker who can hold down the edge while rookie additions learn their way to earn playing time.
