Broncos trade Courtland Sutton to Rams on draft day
The Denver Broncos want to retool the roster to suit the scheme of new head coach Sean Payton. To do that, they will need new weapons. Undertanding that they must surrender value to get value, they are willing to put WR Courtland Sutton on the trade block to the LA Rams on Draft Day to get that LA Rams 36th overall pick. But it's not all silliness for the LA Rams, as the overall trade package is actually a win win for both sides.
In this scenario, the LA Rams surrender picks in Round 2 and Round 5, pick up draft picks in Round 3 and Round 4, and land a WR2 to help get this offense back on track for the 2023 NFL season.
Doing a Denver deal on Draft Day
We know that the LA Rams are going to add a wide receiver. It's better for the LA Rams to add an established veteran rather than take a swing (and perhaps miss) at drafting a wide receiver. And the 6-foot-4 216-pound veteran wide receiver Courtland Sutton has plenty of offensive prowess. Can the LA Rams afford him? As it stands now? No.
But the Rams do have the option to restructure contracts, push dollars from today into tomorrow, and make the necessary space to pull the trigger to land Sutton in their offense. Sutton is under contract through 2025, aligning perfectly with the contracts of other Rams veterans. The only question is, will he persuade the Rams front office to jump through the necessary hoops to make this happen?
