There are more than a few NFL headlines that track former coaches who used to play on the LA Rams coaching staff under HC Sean McVay. But there is less known about players who used to play for the Rams and now, for one reason or another, no longer do. While it often begins with an expired contract, the underlying reasons could be many and varied. Perhaps it was injury. Perhaps it was a numbers game, with too many talented players vying for too few roster slots.

Whatever the reason, it has allowed many former Rams players to find new contracts with new teams, essentially creating a new home for themselves in the NFL. One such player is former Rams PR/KR/WR Austin Trammell. Trammell to no surprise, has been playing remarkably well for his new team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. Through three preseason games, he has hauled in eight of nine passes for 135 receiving yards. Curiously that may not be enough to earn a roster spot on the Jaguars.

But he did have a chance to reunite with a former coach. While unplanned, nobody seemed to notice or pay much heed to an opposing head coach appearing in the huddle. But you can bet that meant a lot to Austin Trammel to meet with Coach Raheem Morris.

If Coach Morris wished his former player good luck, he may want to rethink that in the future. The Jaguars shut out the Atlanta Falcons in the third and final preseason game by a score of 31-0. Of course, the Jaguars got work from their starters, like QB Trevor Lawrence. The Falcons, keeping with the LA Rams tradition of sitting starters and rotational players, did not play starters.

Which is why the preseason records have so little meaning in scenarios like this game. The Jacksonville Jaguar starters were expected to crush the Atlanta Falcons in this game, and they did. But this was hardly an even match. Which is why the Rams have been so amazing so far, in that they are backups facing starters, and still manage to win games.

But for former Rams WR Austin Trammell, this was not about the final score. This was about a former coach making it a point to acknowledge him in a game. While that may not result in Trammell earning a spot on the Jaguars final roster, it could bely a future roster spot for Trammell with the Falcons.

Stay tuned.

And as always, thanks for reading.
