Former Rams defensive starter is already making noise with his new team

Aaron Donald may not be the only defensive lineman the Rams will miss.

So far, the only real conversation about former Rams' defensive linemen that they'll miss this year focuses on one very specific name. And in the team's defense, it's hard to think about other people when the greatest defensive lineman of his generation retires. But while everyone's been sulking about the absence of Aaron Donald, another former defensive starter is, so far at least, turning heads in training camp.

Fortunately, it's only been two weeks and these are the types of stories that we all come back to and laugh about in mid-January. But it's not mid-January right now, so feel free to panic a little bit, just as a treat.

Jonah Williams has looked good for the Vikings so far

The report comes out of Minnesota, where former Rams' defensive lineman Jonah Williams is apparently putting on quite the show. Will Ragatz, On SI's Vikings writer, name-dropped Williams among a half-dozen other training camp observations, and the quote won't make Rams fans feel a whole lot better about this offseason.

"Jonah Williams is a name to know on the defensive line. He played over 600 snaps for the Rams last year and has stood out in a positive way for the Vikings during camp. Today, Williams beat Blake Brandel with a spin move in 1-on-1 drills and then had a nice run stop in 11-on-11 action."

It's probably not all that much of a surprise to Rams fans, who watched Williams come on strong over three years in LA and end his time as a full-time starter. After only appearing in eight games without a start as a rookie, Williams followed that up with a 16-game, six-start sophomore season in 2022 and a 17-game, 16-start season in 2023.

The advanced stats (PFF, basically) don't love his performances quite as much as the box scores do, but a quick look at either one and you'll see a profile of a player who's pretty obviously still getting better.

Ultimately, the Rams have enough young, exciting defensive lineman that they can afford to not worry too much about what could have been. Besides, that's a job better suited for a blog.
