Game-by-Game predictions for 2024 Rams schedule release: Weeks 4 and 5

Week 4 - 9/29 - LA Rams @ Chicago Bears

The LA Rams finally face one of the premier rookie quarterbacks, former USC rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, and a new and improved aerial assault in rookie WR Rome Odunze. The Chicago Bears added plenty of flash and marquee players to a roster but neglected to address the fundamentals of beefing up an offensive line that needed help.

The Bears want to pack the seats, and the combination of rookies Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze will do that. But unlike many NFL analysts who tout this combination as instant chemistry and success, it just doesn't come that easily. Unlike the formula employed by the Houston Texans in 2023, the Bears did not have a ready-made offense and stout defense waiting to plop a new rookie quarterback into. This is a team that is building an offense around the Bears rookie QB, and the Rams will expose the difference with a relentless pass rush.

The Rams' defensive upgrades focused on sacking the quarterback and creating turnovers, and both compete for the highlight reel in this one. The Rams have wanted to put up a landmark defensive effort and this game could be the one. I believe that the new and improved pass rush can get to Caleb Williams four or more times in this one. I also anticipate multiple turnovers created by an energetic and eager defense.

On offense, the Rams execute a simple but effective game plan. Run the ball, move the chains, and score points. With an opportunistic defense, that's all this one needs to find a win. Welcome to the NFL, Caleb Williams.

Final Score:
LA Rams 35
Chicago Bears: 10

Week 5 - 10/6 - Green Bay Packers vs LA Rams

The Green Bay Packers may not compete in the NFC Western Division, but the Rams seem to face them at least once per season. Thankfully, the NFL schedulers have finally seen fit to place the game between these two teams at SoFi Stadium, rather than Lambeau Field.
Without the magic of Lambeau, or the miracles of former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, can this finally be the year that the Rams claim victory over the cheeseheads?
It's long overdue.

The Rams have been snake-bitten when facing the Packers in the recent past. The Rams had to travel to Lambeau Field and take on the Packers without veteran QB Matthew Stafford in 2023. That game was the low point for the team, as the Rams would lose the game by a score of 20-3. That game also became the turning point of the season, as the Rams signed veteran QB Carson Wentz to backup Matthew Stafford. The Rams also used that loss to regroup and come out fighting after their Week 10 BYE week.

The Rams' defense played well enough to win the game. But the offense simply could not do much right behind the throws from backup QB Brett Rypien. As long as Matthew Stafford is healthy, the outcome of this one will be decidedly different.

The Packers have had the Rams number in recent years. But all streaks eventually end, and that losing streak to the Packers ends this year. The Rams need to pick off the Packers to gain tie-breaker advantages over the Packers when the time comes to determine the seeding for NFL teams in the upcoming NFL playoffs.

Final Score:
Green Bay Packers 10
LA Rams 22
