VI- Clutch Sports: Aaron Donald to the Miami Dolphins

We continue down the unlikely Clutch Sports quartet of scenarios that tries to spin the wheel in the hopes that some NFL team, any NFL team, has a natural and logical reason to trade for Aaron Donald. And as such can trigger our own reasoning power to fill in the blanks of why the LA Rams would be lured into doing so.

And so, the next team that comes to mind is the Miami Dolphins. Why? Because they have been aggressively pursuing talent in the past. That's pretty flimsy reasoning in my book. Do the Dolphins have cap space? Does Donald fill a need on the team roster? Who knows?

Why Rams would try this?

Again, this scenario has all the makings of that blind monkey and a dartboard reasoning behind it. What possible reason do the Rams have for taking on this trade? There are few if any reasons even from the most imaginative and far-reaching thinking.

Perhaps the LA Rams had such a positive experience trading DB Jalen Ramsey to the Dolphins for next to nothing, that they would love to double down and give the Dolphins the chance to add another NFL All-Pro player for next to nothing. Perhaps Donald himself will demand that he be traded, tired of another season if success is not immediately forthcoming?

Why Rams wouldn't try this?

For openers, the very act of trading Donald would save the team some salary cap this season. But how do the Rams replace a player of Aaron Donald's caliber, even at the NFL Trade Deadline? The Rams would have to work the phones very hard at that point in the season just to find a suitable starting defensive lineman. For the next dealbreaker, what would possibly be the upside to the Rams in this scenario? Are the Rams simply adopting a Pay-It-Forward perspective? No. Are the Rams truly trying to tank for Caleb Williams? No.

Grade the Trade: F+

This trade scenario fails horrifically too, but perhaps not as tragically as the Raiders scenario. The Rams did trade Ramsey to the Dolphins, so there is a gossamer thread linking the Rams and the Dolphins. Funny thing, though. The author failed to mention it. How do you grade this scenario?
