Ronnie Rivers delivers

The LA Rams 2023 season has only been four games, but even that small number of games has covered three separate and distinct chapters as their rushing offense has gone. In Week 1, the Rams benefitted from the production of RB Kyren Williams, and the stubborness of RB Cam Akers. In Week 2 and Week 3, the Rams struggled a bit with a rushing attack that depended exclusively on 10-15 rushes by RB Kyren Williams.

But in Week 4, the LA Rams morphed once more. This time, the Rams offense was willing to run with the football. RB Kyren Williams rushed 25 times for 103 yards and two rushing touchdowns. But perhaps more importantly, seldom used running back Ronnie Rivers delivered on nine rushes for 47 yards. While not enough to make the highlight reels, it was enough of an impact to change the outcome of a hotly contested game.

The LA Rams won Week 4 in overtime by a score of 29 to 23. In the game, Ronnie Rivers ran just once in overtime, a six-yard gallop that placed the Rams within striking distance of a 22-yard touchdown pass to rookie WR Puka Nacua. It was the timely burst from seldom-used running back Ronnie Rivers that set up that play.

But he did not just plop into that role out of seniority or privelege. He has put in the work, even this season, in special teams and an unbridled willingness to deliver whatever is asked of him:

The LA Rams roster is not exactly stuffed full of household names this season, which is a big change to previous seasons in which the Rams seemed to be a who's who of elite NFL contributors. But the Rams ran that strategy to its eventual conclusion. Now that the Rams have hit the pause button on acquiring the best in slot players, there are opportunities to afford young and hungry players.

One such hungry and talented player is LA Rams running back Ronnie Rivers.
