How to Watch Rams vs Texans in NFL Preseason Week 3 with and without cable
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams are certainly doing their darndest to put sexy back into thye lackluster NFL preseason. While the games mean nothing in a few weeks at the inception of the 2024 NFL season, the games so far have had all of the dramatic crescendos and decrescendos of an NFL Playoff game, complete with two nail -biting fourth quarter comebacks by the team wearing The Horns.
While not everyone views those dramatic finishes as entertaining, I certainly have found myself glued to the game, fearing the risk of missing even one big play. As it so happens, if you simply tuned in to the fourth quarter, you would have caught the game-winning touchdown tosses by QB Stetson Bennett in both games. But each game is different. I would not advise leaving anything to chance.
The LA Rams roll into Houston, Texas to take on the Texans riding a two game preseason winning streak. But after losing the preseason Hall of Fame Game to the Chicago Bears, the Texans are rolling on a two-game winning streak as well.
Both the Texans and the Rams have shown stingy preseason defenses, and you can expect that to be the major storyline in this one. The Rms have notoriously sat not only starters, but key second-string rotational players as well. The Texans are likely to follow a similar rotation, as neither team is interested in risking last minute injuries with roster cuts and the regular season immediately following the outcome of this game.

While you won't see the showdown of veteran QB Matthew Stafford against Texans young star hurler C.J. Stroud, there are some storylines to this story that will be worth the price of admission. Tops on the list is the Rams having to face former running back Cam Akers in this one. So far in preseason, Akers has rushed 17 times for 59 yards, averaging 3.49 yards per carry. But I expect that he will have a little something special saved up in his tank for this one, despite it being a preseason game.
Countering Akers motivated running, the Rams will try to churn out yards on the ground behind the rushing of veteran RB Boston Scott (25 runs, 123 yards, 4.92 YPC) and RB Zach Evans (28 runs, 90 yards, 3.21 YPC). Will it matter? They certainly hope so. But the Rams seem to be keen on advancing RBs Kyren Williams, rookie Blake Corum, and Ronnie Rivers to the 53-man roster automatically. So this could be merely a battle for a practice squad role by the two Rams rushers.
The Texans also boast former Rams WR Ben Skowronek, but do not expect to see him in this one. He suffered a leg injury, and will likely sit out Game 3.
The Rams hope to get an even better game out of besieged backup quarterback Stetson Bennett, one that is error-free. But the team will also have an eye on their swarming defense, that has yet to surrender a touchdown in preseason. And there is cautious optimism that a bad game from punter Ethan Evans was simply an anomaly in Game 2, and that he will be back on track for this one.
Finally, there are still roster slots to be claimed, or lost, in this one. Let's hope for no injuries, and great performances, in this one.
