The 2024 NFL schedule will be released on Thursday, May 15, 2024. Other fans use the time before the scheduled release to assemble the clues of which games are played in which weeks to rule out the Rams' schedule. It's like an NFL version of Suduko. About the Rams strength of schedule
Strength of Schedule (SOS) is always an ambiguous term. In the weeks before the new season starts, it refers to how successful opponents were last season. After the season starts, the Strength of Schedule pivots to current-year opponents. So how do the LA Rams rank in terms of strength of schedule (SOS) for 2024?
As of right now, the LA Rams SOS for this season is .505, which is the 12th ranked SOS in the NFL. So what is strength of schedule used for?
The NFL knows that at the end of each season, two or more teams can end the year with the same record. To allow the NFL to rank those teams in terms of the NFL Playoffs or NFL Draft order, they have come up with a series of tie-breakers that must follow a set of procedures to determine the rank of teams in either scenario. Because tie-breaker rules discern NFL teams after the full season, the strength of schedule from the previous season is an appropriate means of determining draft order or playoff seeding.
However, the use of SOS has little utility in projecting the 2024 difficulty. Some teams have entirely new coaches. Some teams have brand-new quarterbacks. All teams have a new roster. I'm not tossing shade at it, but it's always handy to keep a solid perspective on what a statistic is designed to measure.
