Maher's leg warrants a roster slot
The first game for Maher did not start out well for the Rams new kicker. In fact, after missing his first two field goals in a close Week 1 first half against the NFC West Division rival Seattle Seahawks, it appeared that the Rams were wise indeed to offer Maher no better than a contract on the team's practice squad.
But that did not last for long, and Maher helped lead the LA Rams to roar back in the second half. By the end of the game, Maher had kicked three of five field goals, as well as nailed all three extra points, to help the Rams to score 30 points in a shocking road victory.
That earned him a full contract on the Rams 53-man active roster. In fact, the Rams ran quite the risk by signing Maher to the practice squad. In theory, any NFL team could have poached him from the Rams practice squad, leaving the Rams without their kicker. Thankfully, that was not the case and the Rams were able to sign Maher to a contract before Week 2.
Maher makes everything in Weeks 2 and 3
Brett Maher did not miss anything in a Week 2 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He kicked a perfect three of three for field goals and two of two on extra points. While those 11 points were not enough to put the Rams over the top for a win, it was a bright spot on what turned out to be a rather frustrating home loss.
The rising reputation of Rams FG kicker Brett Maher rose even further after he was a perfect three of three for field goals in a Week 3 heartbreaking loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. Maher was also a perfect one-for-one on extra points as well.
