The last time that the LA Rams benefitted from veteran DB Darious Williams playing in Horns on a football field was February 13, 2022. That just so happened to be Super Bowl LVI, a game in which the LA Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium by the score of 23 to 20.

Since that game, the Rams have had to compete without Darious Williams. And since that game, this team has played to a 16-23 record. While I will not form the conclusion that is was the absence of defensive back Darious Williams that has led to the struggles suffered by the team since his departure, I do hold out hope that his return can aid the team in evening up the wins to losses.

And that winning streak hopefully begins in Week 5.

For the first time in 30 months, the Rams will once more enjoy the talents of veteran cornerback Darious Williams in the secondary, a struggling unit that has fallen far short of expectations so far this season. In addition to Williams, the Rams will also be adding 2023's best defensive back, Ahkello Witherspoon. Even punt returner Xavier Smith is back for Week 5:

Per Lineups.com, Ahkello Witherspoon saw limited action in Week 4, playing just 9 defensive snaps. While not targeted, he did manage to record one tackle.

In theory, opportunities for both Witherspoon and WIlliams to see greater roles on defense will come at the expense of veteran DB Tre'Davious White, a player who has struggled mightily so far. The team could also move Cobie Durant to a nickel cornerback role, move Quentin Lake to a more traditional safety role, and return rookie Kamren Kinchens to the bench.

The presence of both Ahkello Witherspoon and Darious Williams creates a number of potential upgrades to the secondary. Hopefully, the coaching staff will make the right decisions to optimize this group in time to defeat the Green Bay Packers in Week 5.
