Coach Gould can coach RBs with impressive results

Coach Gould has coached a litany of running backs who have been incredibly successful at carrying the football. And not only the 30+ years of coaching players to optimize their ability to run with the football that makes him so very important to the LA Rams team right now, but it's also the fact that he has effectively brought out the best in so many running backs over his career.

Right now, the LA Rams need a running back coach who can connect with multiple players of varying skills and styles simultaneously. And it's all happening very quickly. After learning that RB Ronnie Rivers would be out more than four weeks, the Rams learned today that their featured running back, Kyren Williams, is likely out until they Week 10 BYE.

Hang on, help is on the way

That means that the LA Rams will be forced to go with their two remaining healthy running backs, rookie RB Zach Evans and a just promoted from the practice squad running back, veteran Royce Freeman:

But even with those two splitting the workload, the Rams will need reinforcements. That explains why they were willing to sign former RB Darrell Henderson Jr. to their practice squad. But the Rams roster may need more than one additional running back. After all, the team traded away Cam Akers, and now faces injuries to the team's two top rushers.

That prompted the Rams front office to continue to assess and vet other running backs, finally determining that RB Myles Gaskin, who was on the Minnesota VIking practice squad, made an ideal option for the Rams offense. And so, due to the rules of signing players from other teams' practice squad, the Rams signed veteran RB Myles Gaskin directly to their active 53-man roster.

I love the Gaskin signing, but I'll discuss the reasons why later in this article.
