LA Rams inactives list for Week 2 game against the Cardinals: Official edition
By Bret Stuter
Okay, the LA Rams are circling the wagons and checking their roster. Who will remain active for Week 2, and who will be asked to this this one out to ensure the team has the most competitive active roster? It's one of many simple but important decision points that ultimately impact the final outcome of a game.
Will the Rams make the right choices to lock in the win in Week 2?
There is a lot of speculation over who the Rams might sit in this one, and after another active week of roster 'tweaks,' by the team's front office, the speculation is far more robust. And that makes complete sense. Not only is this Rams roster rather deep, but the challenges of compensating for repetitive injuries at the same position have forced the team to adopt a dynamic roster of sorts, basically researching the team's needs each week, and reformulating a new inactive list to ensure the new week's needs are met.
So who is likely to 'sit out' Week 2?
Projected inactives list for Rams in Week 2
- TE Davis Allen
- OL Dylan McMahon
- OLB Brennan Jackson
- RB Cody Schrader
- DL Tyler Davis
Projective inactives list for Cardinals in Week 2
- CB Darren Hall
- LB Jesse Luketa
- OL Jon Gaines II
- TE Travis Vokolek
- WR Xavier Weaver
- DB Dante Sills
- DL Dante Stills
Inactives have been updated with the official inactives list.
Key Absences and Their Impact
Offensive Impact
- The absence of second-year TE Davis Allen could limit the team's 12 personnel packages.
- The Rams still have plenty of options for running in Week 2. Expect rookie RB Blake Corum to get his first NFL touches in this one.
- The Rams had activated TE Nikola Kalinic and IOL Justin Dedich for Week 2. Kalinic is that third tight end option, while Dedich has the forte to slide in and play any of the team's three interior offensive line positions in the game in case of emergency.
- The inclusion of OL Dylan McMahon is to be expected, as he is a recent addition.
Defensive Impact
- The Rams will use Brennan Jackson in their pass rush rotation in Week 2 at the outside linebacker position.
- ILB Elias Neal will have a shot to compete in Week 2. That is vital to his chances to resist being released as the team looks for roster slots to restore suspended players.
- The Rams will need to get a lot of mileage from defensive players in Week 2.
Special Teams Impact
- The absence of Elias Neal, Desjuan Johnson, and Brennan Jackson could be a limiting factor for the coverage units of special teams
The Rams will need to recapture their ability to swarm on defense, strike quickly on offense, and get a much better effort from all aspects of special teams to win this one. Even as the season is still early, the longer it takes the team to find success, the more elusive that success becomes.
The team needs to win, but needs to stay healthy. Can the team walk this narrow path in Week 2? Stay tuned.
And as always, thank you for reading.
