LA Rams interior offensive lineman Logan Bruss's stock may be rising once more
By Bret Stuter
You may not have heard a lot of information about LA Rams third-year interior offensive lineman Logan Bruss. In the world of NFL offensive linemen, no news is good news. And so, it may be excellent news that neither you nor anyone else has heard about Bruss recently. So why am I breaking the silence by talking about him now? If you hadn't noticed, Logan Bruss was named in the 2024 first unofficial Rams depth chart.
And he was named as the primary backup for starting left guard Jonah Jackson.
So why are the Rams playing Zach Thomas at left guard right now? That can be explained due to the fact that Zach Thomas is listed as the primary backup for starting right guard Kevin Dotson, and Dotson remains healthy so far. In comparison, Thomas is likely viewed as the better offensive guard between he and Bruss.
A similar situation would develop if the team was only dealing with one offensive tackle injury, rather than four right now. Joe Noteboom is listed as the primary backup to starting left tackle Alaric Jackson. But he is a vital and versatile swing tackle, and is the first player off the bench regardless of which tackle may be injured.
So why is this newsworthy information about Logan Bruss?
Until 2024, Logan Bruss has been fighting back from a devastating injury suffered in his rookie season. That injury, much like the injury that hobbled former starting center Brian Allen for two seasons, Not only ended his 2022 NFL season before the season started, but resulted in his release and signing on with the team's practice squad for the entirety of the year.
But his appearance as a backup suggests that he is doing better. And with the Rams in need of healthy offensive linemen right now, perhaps his long overdue climb back up the Rams depth chart is underway.
Bruss was selected in Round 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 104th overall pick from the University of Wisconsin. He was the team's first selection that year, the same draft that landed the team DBs Russ Yeast, Quentin Lake, Derion Kendrick, and Cobie Durant. But the star of that rookie class is clearly RB Kyren Williams.
It was Bruss who was supposed to be the star of that 2022 rookie draft class. Unfortunately, his star has yet to rise. Perhaps now is his time? With the team reinvesting in offensive linemen like never before, with two rookies drafted plus the signing of four new veteran free agents, if Bruss hopes to make the 53-man roster, he has got to show up big now.
While there is no tomorrow is an overused cliche, it could be true for Logan Bruss. The Rams won't carry 10 offensive linemen on their 53-man roster. So he has to be sure that he ends up among the team's Top 10 offensive linemen to be sure. And that means that he still has some work to do.
