LA Rams land secondary starters in this 3-round Post Combine Mock Draft
By Bret Stuter
With the 83rd overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft
The LA Rams select Safety, Cole Bishop, out of Utah. Bishop certainly improved his stock at the NFL Scouting Combine, He vaunted himself to be the best coverage cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he may be right. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing a robust 206 pounds, Bishop certainly looks the part of a physical nose-to-the-grindstone defensive back who can answer the call regardless of what is needed from him.
We had named Bishop as a player to keep on your radar throughout the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, and for good reason. Before 2023, he had the good fortune to compete against former Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid, and as is often the case, the two made each other that much better.
He is extremely versatile, able to provide solid pass coverage, even from the slot. He can provide run support. And he can even be used in blitz packages to pressure unsuspecting quarterbacks. He loves to play football and it shows, constantly trying to jar the football loose with each tackle, and never taking a play off.
With the 84th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft
The LA Rams select RB Audric Estime, out of Notre Dame. Despite my annual lobbying for a true power back, the front office has been content to rely on renting a veteran runner to handle the north-south calls of running between the tackles. But Notre Dame's Audric Estime has enough well-rounded skillsets to wake the team out of sleeping on the need for a big and mean-minded runner.
Audric Estime is not the fastest running back in the 2024 NFL Draft, because he doesn't need to be. His role is not to run away from defenders. Rather, he runs through them.
Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 221 pounds Estime is certainly a big enough running back. But he plays bigger than that. When he gets close to the end zone, no force on earth seems to be able to stop him from getting the touchdown. His ability to convert red zone opportunities into scores is just one of many treats he brings to an offense.
He is also quick effective as a receiver, and once he gets the football in his hands, he is next to impossible for a single defensive back to bring down to the ground. He will need to improve his pass blocking and he can do better at hitting the hole instantly out of the backfield. But if you wanted the Rams to extend Kyren Williams career by adding a player capable of sharing the load, your prayers have been answered.
