LA Rams may have best overall QB room in the NFL heading into 2024
The Los Angeles Rams signed QB Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency this past offseason. Does he help round out the best QB room in the NFL? It might sound silly now, but hear me out. Unfortunately, Garoppolo will be suspended for the first two games of the 2024 NFL Season for violating the NFL's drug policy.
It's an unfortunate situation, but Garoppolo only has to miss two games. QB1 is obviouslyMatthew Stafford, who is in his 16th season in the NFL and now entering his fourth season with the Los Angeles Rams. Two of his first three seasons have been quite good. They won the Super Bowl in 2021, but did have a down year in 2022.
Their rebound in 2023 puts them in a great position to make a deep playoff run in 2024, but there are some concerns. Is the Rams young roster battle-tested enough to make another Super Bowl? Also, Stafford has been banged up for what feels like his entire career; will he make it through a full season?
Even if he has to miss a few games, the Rams can simply deploy Garoppolo for those starts. There might not be a more tested backup QB in the NFL, frankly in NFL history, than Jimmy Garoppolo. The veteran QB enjoyed a ton of success with the San Francisco 49ers, starting in a Super Bowl and gong 38-17 as the 49ers starter.
He's also got two Super Bowl championships as a backup with the New England Patriots. The Los Angeles Rams really hit this signing out of the park; no one is going to panic if Garoppolo has to step in and start for a couple of games, and I think this signing really sealed the deal on the idea that the Rams are all-in for 2024.
The obvious hope is that Matthew Stafford starts all 17 games and plays out of his mind, but if he does not, the team will be in great hands.
