With the 154th overall pick
the LA Rams select Jonah Elliss, edge rusher, out of Utah. Jonah Elliss is one of the prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft who is virtually impossible to peg in terms of a consistent projection among various big boards and mock drafts. This young man stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 248 pounds, and comes from a football-familiar family. His older brother, Kaden Elliss, played four seasons for the New Orleans Saints before signing with the Atlanta Falcons in 2023.
Because he is a bit smallish for the role, Elliss has learned to compensate with above average athleticism and physicality. As you can see by his RAS score, he scores low on his height and weight, but dominates on his agility and explosiveness measurements:
We had mocked Jonah Elliss once before, which was the first time that I had seen him mentioned as a suitable outside linebacker. Since that time, I have seen his name linked to the LA Rams multiple times. Clearly others like what he brings to this defense.
Ellisss burst onto everyone's radar screen in 2023, a year in which he recorded 37 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, 12.0 quarterback sacks, and broke up three passes.
Because he is of smaller build, he will need to add muscle to armor up for his NFL career. Until that time, he will struggle to establish the edge on running plays, and may be a rotational outside linebacker on passing downs initially. He is worth the investment in Round 5.
