4 LA Rams players that won't survive roster cuts
By Ryan Heckman
2. Royce Freeman, RB
Running back has been somewhat of a controversial position for the Rams over the past season or two, as the Cam Akers saga stirred up some questions. At one point, Akers wanted to be traded out of Los Angeles, but ended up remaining on the team.
Now, the Rams enter the season with Akers as their unquestioned starter, who should end up getting a ton of work because of an unproven group behind him. Speaking of which, the two names behind him currently are 2022 fifth-round pick Kyren Williams and 2023 sixth-round pick Zach Evans. Those two will fill out the depth chart, with Ronnie Rivers having a chance to stick around as the fourth running back.
Though the Rams signed Royce Freeman after the sudden Sony Michel retirement, Freeman has not done enough to warrant a permanent roster spot. His career looks to be nearly over after it began just five years ago. The 27-year-old back will be a fairly easy cut for this Rams team come Tuesday, if it doesn't happen beforehand.
Los Angeles may choose to give the veteran a day or two of a head start on finding a new team ahead of the cut-down date.
