LA Rams QB room is epicenter of confidence and chaos for 2024

IV: No joke. Dresser Winn is still a solid QB project

One of the areas that I believe the LA Rams can leverage is to find, coach up, develop, and then market a succession of backup quarterbacks who can be used as roster depth, trade options, or simply to have in case of emergencies. If the Rams offensive coaches are pillaged by other teams in nearly every annual coaching carousel, why can't the team make use of that feverish hunger for Rams offensive access by developing and marketing raw developmental projects.

Former Rams quarterback Bryce Perkins had a rather promising showing for the UFL Michigan Panthers, completing 30 of 38 passes (78.9 percent completion rate) for 343 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. That's not too shabby for a guy who did not see much action on the Rams roster.

So why am I going out on a limb to proclaim former University of Tennessee at Martin QB Dresser Winn is a solid QB project? Well, he was an under-the-radar quarterback signed after the 2023 NFL Draft, and he is still on the team one year later:

NFL Draft Profile. . CFA. . Draft Sleepers. Quarterback. . University of Tennessee at Martin. Dresser Winn. 51

Winn stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 215 pounds. a solid size for an NFL quarterback. Touted as a quarterback prospect who has improvisational skills, he makes an suitable understudy to learn from veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. Even if he rises no higher than 'camp arm,' he benefits the team by offering quality replication of Stafford's throws.

But there is more to Dresser Winn than just a guy who is showing up for a paycheck. He is a guy who loves the game of football, who has fought through adversity, and who flashes the ability to raise some eyebrows.

Winn did not arrive 'NFL ready,' but he does have the heart of a competitor. The front office has learned that players who are passionate about football and who refuse to quit have the potential to surprise some folks. If Winn earns a spot on the team's practice squad in 2024, I would call that a win.
