Which means that . . .

There is a strong likelihood that Cam Akers never saw this coming, and that this was as much of a shock to him this morning as it was to the LA Rams fans.

This action is solely coming on the LA Rams behalf. So what could that mean? Well, believe it or not, there are three reasons that I can think of that would trigger this action, and I will list them in the order of likelihood (least likely to most likely)

III: Strongly considering releasing the player

While this is the least likely, it cannot be ruled out entirely. The LA Rams cleared many marginal performers throughout the 2022 NFL season, and that mindset of no tolerance for underperforming players may have lingers into 2023. Are the Rams pondering another round of releases? I would not bet on it, but I would not rule it out entirely either.

Despite the injury to his Achilles Tendon, the production of Cam Akers since returning has been three parts abysmal production to one part amazing production. Is that something that Akers has control over, or is that simply the norm going forward?

While that type of erratic production is commonplace with rookies trying to find their groove in the NFL, RB Cam Akers is not a rookie. That logically sets the bar for his performance, both with the football in his hands and in other responsibilities like pass blocking, far higher to be acceptable.

I do not think that we are stretching the truth whatsoever to cite Akers Week 1 performance as below expectations. Now, we only have our imaginations to fill in the void for what the LA Rams response will be.
