3. Xavier Smith
Finally, we come to an undrafted free agent that has an opportunity to prove himself a gem. Xavier Smith, out of Florida A&M, is a 5-foot-9 speedster who can be used in a variety of ways on offense and even special teams, if need be.
Smith finds himself at the tail end of the depth chart, but without Kupp for a while, it gives the Rams flexibility to see what he might be able to do if given the opportunity.
This might just be one of those guys McVay keeps, surprising us, and uses him in a few different ways. Smith is fast enough and has the explosiveness to be used creatively, on jet sweeps and trick plays, but can also throw it when asked to. He's a multi-faceted player with a lot of upside if he's only able to get the chance to showcase it.
Throughout the preseason, it will be interesting to see if Smith gets that chance to do a few different things with the ball in his hands. He just might surprise some people, giving way to posing a threat to an end-of-roster spot.
