The LA Rams seem to have developed a pattern of making roster move news releases on Tuesdays. Well, that pattern continues this week, as the team has announced once more that the front office has released another player.
The team must be feeling a bit better about the injury status of DB Darious Williams, whose hamstring injury, coupled with the news of losing DB Derion Kendrick for the season, prompted the team's front office into action. Since both injuries happened rather early in training camp, and rather rapidly one after another, the team felt the need to sign reinforcements.
That reinforcement came in the form of former Detroit Lions cornerback Jerry Jacobs, who signed with the Rams almost immediately after the news of the Williams hamstring injury became public. Jacobs made sense for two reasons. On one hand, he is a young defensive back who has the experience of filling in a role that expands or shrinks throughout the season. On the other hand, he had experience playing for DB Coach Aubrey Pleasant with the Lions.
But one of the casual nicknames for the NFL is 'Not For Long,' and that nickname is certainly earned in the case of Jerry Jacobs' tenure with the team. You see, the team announced that he has been released with an Injury Settlement designation:
The team is less than one week away from the NFL roster cuts deadline on August 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm PT. At that time, all 32 teams will be forced to trim their rosters to the 53-man limit for the 2024 NFL season. One day later, teams will be permitted to re-sign players to the 16-player practice squad.
Jacobs will have the opportunity to be claimed by another team. If not signed elsewhere, he can return to compete with the Rams in 2025.
