When it comes down to the LA Rams roster and the moves that are intended to field the best team in time for the 2023 NFL season, which factor is the most dominant? Do the LA Rams intend on building an affordable team? Do the Rams intend on building a competitive team? Or do the LA Rams simply intend on assembling a team that passes the sniff test, but is ultimately designed to land the first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft?

Well, before answer that question, keep in mind that the Rams are still actively shopping the NFL Free Agency market. While that may not be enough to get all of the LA Rams fans on the edge of their seats, it certainly will get some fans attention. What am I being so melodramatic about? Well, the LA Rams traded a fourth-round and a sixth-round draft pick to acquire this player. Then, after winning Super Bowl LVI, they offered no contract, no resistance to let him walk away in free agency.

Can you guess who he is? Well, he is former New England Patriots and LA Rams running back Sony Michel, that's who . . .

Talk about not seeing that one coming? Wow.

I love this signing of veteran RB Sony Michel

I will not pretend to be indifferent to this signing. I loved what Sony Michel added to the LA Rams offense, particularly considering that he was acquired much later in the 2021 NFL season than now. Even after he signed with the Miami Dolphins, only to be released at the final roster cuts, I was still beating the drums for the LA Rams to sign him once more.

For the life of me, I am still puzzled over the fact that the LA Rams traded two picks for him, started him in just 7 games, got nearly 1000 yards of offense out of the guy, and then just let him walk in free agency. The Rams rushing attack never materialized in 2022. Sure, RB Cam Akers delivered three consecutive 100-yard games to close out the 2022 NFL season, but that was well after the Rams season was already over.

So why would the LA Rams bring a veteran running back to the same Rams roster that the team let walk away from so non-chalantly just one year ago? I will share by thoughts on that soon enough. But for right now, let's go down the list of reasons why I think Rams fans should love this signing.
