LA Rams should award a roster slot to this rookie on this quote alone

It's not uncommon for rookies to make such a huge impact on the team. But did the LA Rams find another diamond-in-the-rough? Signs point in that direction.

When it comes to the LA Rams view of preseason games, Many of the roster spots of the upcoming 53-man initial Rams roster are already claimed. We know about 26 of the roster spots are claimed by 22 starters on offense and defense, plus special team specialists. When you begin to factor in the backups and rookies who are clearly making this roster, the number of claimed roster spots quickly soars over 40. And that means that there may be more players worthy of a roster spot who won't make the team.

But to whomever makes those final roster decisions, please make sure that there is a reserved spot on the team for this roster. Based on this golden quote alone, rookie defensive tackle Tyler Davis has earned the right to compete in Horns this season. And from what we have seen, heard, and read about this young rookie, the best is yet to come:

Rookie defensive linemen are challenged every day, on every play, in the NFL. If they never reach their potential, they seldom make plays and run the risk of not making the roster. But if they do reach their potential, and do make plays, they are noticed by offensive coordinators, quarterbacks, and most importantly, offensive linemen, who simply divert resources and attention to stymie the growing risk of letting a defender make a play.

And right now, every offensive coordinator, quarterback, and offensive lineman is sitting up and taking notice of DT Tyler Davis. After all, anyone highlighted by the best NFL Insider and analyst, Brian Baldinger, is going to draw the attention of everyone in the NFL.

And Baldy's Breakdowns just highlighted Tyler Davis from his first preseason game:

This was the first opportunity for Rams fans to witness what rookie DT Tyler Davis brings to the defense. And what a treat it was! Davis is a non-stop go-getter who has the agility of a cat, the elusiveness of a rabbit, the cunning of a fox, and the speed of a deer. He was a nightmare to the Dallas Cowboys offensive linemen, oftentimes getting to the hole faster than they could react and block him.

He did not trash talk. He did not boast. He simply stated that the defensive mindset was three-and-out on every play. Best of all, his performance exuded that focused mindset.

Of course, the Rams roster has plenty of talent on the roster. But if the team needs to give starters a breather, or ask a young defender to step up to fill in for a dinged up teammate, Tyler Davis should be that guy.

Much like NT Kobie Turner in 2023, Tyler Davis embodies this defensive line's mantra in 2024. And based on that alone, he deserves a spot on this team's roster.
