The LA Rams are not in a rebuild season. While the team has an abundance of new players on the roster, many of whom are expected to show up and deliver in a starting role, this team had a taste of the NFL Playoffs at the end of the 2023 NFL season and simply wants the main course in 2024. And this team has a good chance of advancing in post season competition.
This is now more than a team seeking its starting 22+ players. The Rams roster is bursting with talent and depth. But somewhere between new players, new coaches, new schemes, and a brand new season, the Rams must sort out the best configuration of strategies and personnel on offense, defense, and special teams to win this season.
- The LA Rams hope to build on the momentum of finishing the 2023 NFL season with a 7-1 record.
- The Rams have refueled their entire offensive array of weapons with the arrival of rookie Blake Corum at running back, veteran Colby Parkinson at tight end, and rookie Jordan Whittington at wide receiver.
- The offensive line is reconfigured around second-year center Steve Avila, He will be flanked on the left by tackle Alaric Jackson and guard Jonah Jackson, and on the right by tackle Rob Havenstein and guard Kevin Dotson.
- New DC Chris Shula has a host of young talented players competing on defense, led by ILB Ernest Jones IV.

Joint Practices with Other NFL Teams
The LA Rams do not play starters or even key rotational role players in preseason games. To circumvent the team to get starters synchronized and familiar with the new playbook and teammates, the Rams have adopted the practice of controlled scrimmages that allows prescripted plays to be run both on offense and defense against player of other teams.
That shakes starters out of familiarity of knowing which plays they will be facing by repetitious practices from the same playbook and players. It also allows veterans to engage in a bit more physicality before the season starts.
The Rams have scheduled four separate joint practices this year. While three of the joint practices coincide with their preseason games and opponents, the team will also hold an early joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers on August 4, 2024 in El Segundo.
There will be plenty to take away from joint practices, but this year keep an eye on how special teams are deployed. There is no general consensus as to the optimal way to strategize for the new kickoff rules in 2024, so the Rams will be trialing various attempts to find the best ways to approach the new scenario. And the team will be looking at other teams' strategies as well.
- Aug. 4 at Chargers in El Segundo
- Aug. 8 at Cowboys in Oxnard
- Aug. 14 at Chargers in El Segundo
- Aug. 22 at Texans in Houston
Key Players to Watch
There will be a lot of competition throughout the team's talented roster this season. While many starting roles are expected to be established, you can look for a great deal of jockeying for rotational roles, backup spots, and even players who are fighting hard to return to the practice squad
- Safeties are talented but unsettled. Who will earn starting roles among Kamren Curl, John Johnson III, Quentin Lake, Russ Yeast, and Kamren Kinchens?
- While the return specialist is expected to be veteran RB Boston Scott, the latest revelation of WR Tutu Atwell getting reps as a return specialist is both shocking and intriguing. Do the Rams have any other surprises in store on special teams?
- While OLBs Jared Verse and Byron Young are expected to start in 2024, don't discount the presence of Furian Brennan Jackson and veteran Michael Hoecht in rotational roles.
Rookies to Watch
The LA Rams certainly made it a point to flex their new-founded value of a Round 1 draft pick in 2024, exploring options to trade up, trade back, and simply stand pat. The team entered with 11 draft picks and emerged with 10 talented players. Combined with 14 drafted and one undrafted rookie who earned a spot on the team's 53-man roster in 2023, there is no shortage of youthful energy in 2024.
Keep an eye on the strong chemistry between former Florida State Seminoles Jared Verse and Braden Fiske. The Rams were enthralled with their ability to synchronize and leverage their deep passion for the game and understanding of one another to perform on the defensive front as though they were one player. The willingness of one to sacrifice himself to allow the other to make plays is seldom seen in the NFL.
Opponents betware.
This will also be the first sightings by fans of former Stanford kicker Joshua Karty. Throughout OTAs and minicamp, we have heard plenty of positive news about his almost robotic dependability at kicking the football through the uprights.
There is plenty to see and experience at the LA Rams training camp this season. But be sure that you have confirmed your tickets. The open camp sessions are so popular this year, every session has sold out.
