He's still got it

Stern words, right? That is how the LA Rams front office must approach any and all negotiations right now. This team painted itself into a corner after the 2022 NFL season was ground to a halt due to an overwhelming number of injuries on the roster. That painful and expensive lesson is not easily ignored. Thankfully, there are plenty of positive takeaways as well.

NBC Sports NFL Analyst Chris Simms has compiled a list of the annual Top 40 NFL quarterbacks. And lo and behold, he has LA Rams veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford listed among his Top-5. While I am completely satisfied with that ranking, I would say that you could make an argument for Stafford to fall in just after Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

However you rank Matthew Stafford, one thing seems obvious. When healthy, Stafford remains one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. And the Rams are doing everything possible to ensure his health this season. That not only includes upgrading the offensive line, but adding a big burly blocker at tight end as well. And we probably ought to mention the significant investment the team made in their depth at the running back position.

That says quite a bit for the team's valuing Matthew Stafford.

This team has won one Super Bowl behind the passing excellence of Matthew Stafford, and believe that they can do so again. I can see it happening as well.

Ultimately, some media see storms brewing on the horizon. But I simply see those rumblings heading away from the Rams right now. Everyone wants to get a new deal done. Everyone wants to win a Super Bowl. Until that changes, everything is positive for the team and their veteran quarterback.

Thanks for reading.
