As time passes, it's becoming more likely that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will be traded. This can be a huge boost to the LA Rams chances in 2024. The latest update is pouring in, as it indicates that Aiyuk and the Niners are going to agree to disagree and end this relationship.

And then, this broke late in the day on August 5, 2024:

The star wide receiver caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards in the 2023 NFL Season, but in two games against the Rams in 2023, he caught just six passes for 68 yards, so the LA secondary was able to keep him in check. The 26 year old WR seems to want more money than the Niners are willing to offer, so perhaps this dominate team is beginning to get some notable chinks in their armor.

And at some point, this was going to happen. The 49ers have a ton of big-money contracts on their roster, and are a top-heavy team. What has given them a huge advantage recently is them having QB Brock Purdy on a rookie deal. They're also one of the best coached teams in the league, so they do not need great talent everywhere.

Offensive players like Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, and Trent Williams are on all teams that are near or at the very top of their respective markets. There just does not seem to be room for Aiyuk, and it feels likely that the Niners trade him out of the conference as well. This gives the Rams that much more of an opening to compete with them in the 2024 NFL Season.

The Rams shocked the NFL last year, finishing strong, earning a 10-7 record, and making the playoffs. With their elite rookie class from 2023 now a year older, and what appears to be another strong offseason, LA could be on a level playing field with the Niners, especially when this Brandon Aiyuk trade goes down.

This should be seen as great news if you're a Rams fan, as the Niners might be within striking distance in 2024. The Rams may not have a ton of time left though, as QB Matthew Stafford is now in his age-36 season, but for the present at least, the Rams have a nice opening.
