Lions' latest injury update won't sit well with Rams fans ahead of Week 1 clash

The LA Rams are not the only NFL team getting positive injury updates ahead of Week 1.

We know that the LA Rams must play in Week 1 on the road to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football without backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and starting left tackle Alaric Jackson. But this team has been getting some positive news lately, as starting right tackle Rob Havenstein has been making progress, and may still suit up and compete in the road opener.

But the LA Rams do not have the monopoly on positive news from the latest injury updates.

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, the Lions running back who put up 945 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023, has been given the all greens to go for the Lions in Week 1. And his availability, combined with RB David Montgomery, gives the Lions a very successful 1-2 punch in the backfield.

Despite both Montgomery and Gibbs playing in the Wild Card Round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs, the Rams held the Lions ground assault to just 79 yards on 25 carries. Unfortunately, the team could not shut the door on their scoring, as both David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs were about to add a touchdown on offense.

Without DT Aaron Donald, ILB Ernest Jones IV, or DE Jonah Williams on the Rams defense this year, you will likely see plenty of rushes from the Lions to start their season. The Detroit Lions have to view this young Rams defense as vulnerable to a determined and potent rushing offense.

And that is something that this young defense must be prepared to face, and stop, throughout the season.

While the Rams held their own on the ground against the Lions, the secondary was not nearly as effective. Lions QB completed 22 of 27 passes for 277 yards, despite being sacked three times. While the Rams defense hopes to generate a lot of pressure in this game, the true test will be the refurbished secondary, and whether the new defensive backs can make things more difficult for Goff.

The Rams will face a difficult challenge on the road to start the season.
