The LA Rams 2024 Training Camp is underway. And for many fans, the job for the team's front office is over, and it's now up to the coaching staff to shape and mold this roster into one that will win and perhaps even claim the Lombardi Trophy. While most of the roster moves for the team are in the rear view mirror, there remains more work to be done. After all, training camp is when the pads finally go on, and football transforms from concepts and whiteboards to actual practices and plays.

And not every concept, roster addition, or Xs and Ox on the whiteboard work out when the pads go on.

In 2024, the team made a number of late signings to the roster that resulted in key contributors throughout the 2023 NFL season. The team signed veteran RB Royce Freeman on July 30, 2023. On August 7, 2023, the team signed DB John Johnson III. While you may have expected that to be the end all, the team traded for IOL Kevin Dotson from the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 27, 2023. All three made the 53 man roster.

All three veterans made significant contributions to the team in 2023.

While I would not look for the Rams to make any preseason trades to land an eventual 2024 NFL season starter, the team is not quite sold on this version of the Rams roster just yet. After all, there are 26 rookies, plus multiple new veteran free agents on the roster to open training camp. While many starting roles are settled, don't look for a lack of heated competition this season. You may find that the talent level of the team has risen to the point where serious competition ignites in many positions.

And not just for backup roles or roster spots.

Just as one current free agent, former Rams defensive back Ahkello Witherspoon remains unsigned. Does the team have a spot for him should he return to the roster?

The team still has plenty of time to ensure that it fields the most competitive roster possible in 2024. Now that the team has resolved matters with veteran QB Matthew Stafford, the front office can focus on tweaking the roster for 2024.

Look for one or two additions to the roster soon. Perhaps even within a week's time.
