The Los Angeles Rams have been a team that hasn't relied on first-round talents to help them compete, or at least not players that they selected in the first round. For the first time since 2016, the Rams currently have possession of their first-round pick. How many picks do they have in total?

As of this writing, the Rams have 11 picks to work with in the 2024 NFL Draft, including five compensatory picks. The 100th overall pick is a compensatory pick awared to the Rams for losing Raheem Morris to the Falcons, 177th overall is for the loss of Baker Mayfield in free agency, and the sixth-round compensatory picks are for losing Matt Gay, Nick Scott, and A'Shawn Robinson.

Have the Rams ever picked 19th overall before?

The Rams have held the 19th pick five times. The last time it happened was in 2005 when they selected Alex Barron, a tackle out of Florida State. Barron started 76 games for the Rams over five years and was out of the league after the 2010 season. Here were the other times the Rams had the 19th pick and who they selected:

  • 1979 - George Andrews, LB (Nebraska)
  • 1958 - Clendon Thomas, DB (Oklahoma)
  • 1955 - Corky Taylor, DB (Kansas State)
  • 1941 - Jay McDowell, OT (Washington)

Recent history of 19th overall pick in NFL Draft

Here's a look at the last 10 players selected with the No. 19 pick:

  • 2014: Ja'Wuan James, OT (Dolphins)
  • 2015: Cameron Erving, C (Browns)
  • 2016: Shaq Lawson, DE (Bills)
  • 2017: O.J. Howard, TE (Buccaneers)
  • 2018: Jaire Alexander, CB (Packers)
  • 2019: Jeffery Simmons, DT (Titans)
  • 2020: Damon Arnette, CB (Raiders)
  • 2021: Jamin Davis, LB (Commanders)
  • 2022: Trevor Penning, OT (Saints)
  • 2023: Calijah Kancey, DL (Buccaneers)

There appears to be more "meh" in this group with Lawson, Alexander, and Simmons being the only notable names here. Penning so far has looked like a major disappointment for New Orleans and Arnette isn't in the league anymore due to legal issues.

As of this writing, the Rams have eight draft picks for 2025. They traded their fifth-round pick to the Steelers for Kevin Dotson and received a sixth-round pick in return. They also received an additional sixth-round pick for the Van Jefferson trade with the Falcons where they sent Jefferson and a seventh-rounder to Atlanta in exchange for the sixth-rounder.

The seventh-round selection might end up belonging to the Vikings due to the Cam Akers trade and if that conditional pick goes through, the Rams would have two sixth-rounders instead of a sixth and a seventh.
