More injury updates from LA Rams Training Camp as Week 2 fires up

It's Week 2 of the LA Rams Training Camp. And that means it's time for an injury update.

With the team diving headfirst into the second week of the 2024 LA Rams training camp, there is plenty to be impressed with. One group that I am especially impressed with is the young but passionate defensive front. This is a group that almost everyone has discounted, far in excess I fear, but who will quickly shock NFL teams and analysts into rethinking how they view the group.

But even as we heap the praise on players, there remains the risk as physical exertion increases that injuries will happen. Even as nobody is playing at full speed or full force, the ramping up of practices typically triggers minor injuries. While I would hope that the team would avoid them, they will inevitably occur. As you know, the team has already been impacted by an ACL injury to CB Derion Kendrick. And the team is still dealing with the NFL Playoffs injury to TE Tyler Higbee.

The team is limiting the workload of NT Kobie Turner due to a groin injury. And the team has been somewhat cautious with RB Kyren Williams due to a foot injury earlier in the off-season.

Veteran DB Darious Williams injured his hamstring in the first week of training camp, and is currently on a week to week status. But now, the Rams have to deal with a minor injury to starting left tackle Alaric Jackson. Jackson is dealing with a minor matter to his ankle, but Coach McVay downplayed the situation as something that will heal quickly.

Of course, the team has been actively working the workload of several players, including ILB Ernest Jones, DB John Johnson III, and DB Tre'Davious White. you can add veteran QB Matthew Stafford to the list of workload management, as he was given a day 'off' as the team ran the first team offense behind QB Jimmy Garoppolo.

While I know that injuries happen, these events do afford the team to shine the spotlight on depth players. And unless this team manages to endure all 17 games in 2024 without suffering any mishaps, these backups will play significant roles in the team's ultimate success.

And so, the Rams get the double whammy of wisdom by managing the workloads of key contributors. Not only does less work now equate to more production later, but the added reps for backup players ensures that they will be prepared to step up in case the situation calls for it.

UPDATE: July 30, 2024

While we do not have a formal team-originated report, this is a concern. Jonah Jackson is one of the veterans who is known to be coming off an injury, and whose workload has been carefully monitored by the team's training staff. A setback early in training camp in not a step in the right direction

As of right now, only DB Derion Kendrick is out for the season. TE Tyler Higbee will almost certainly start the season on IR, but will return once the season gets underway. All others are still very much on track to suit up and play in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.

As always, thanks for reading.
