This ain't the frozen tundra in Week 5, baby

Ah, the arrival of October removes all doubt from NFL fans nationwide. This is Football Season, with all the sights, sound, and smells that carry football fans from the heat of lingering summer temperatures into the cold and bitter wind-infused temperatures of a new calendar year. While the journey is a soft decline for the LA Rams and Rams fans, some parts of the nation are already experiencing the steep plunge from short and tee-shirts to sweater weather.

Such as Green Bay, Wisconsin, home of Lombardi Field and the Green Bay Packers.

While not resembling the frozen tundra just yet, the residents of Green Bay are already facing nightly lows in the 30s. Rams fans have weeks to go before they face those chilly evenings, if ever. And therein lies the rub.

The LA Rams are hosting the Green Bay Packers, their first home game against the Cheeseheads in what seems like forever. While Packers HC Matt LaFleur is undefeated against Rams HC Sean McVay, he owes much of that success to NFL schedulers. You see, the Packers have hosted the Rams in the last four games:

The Rams last defeated the Packers in 2018 at home, a game in which the Rams won by a score of 29-27. That contest, played in late October 2018, ended a five-game winning streak of the Packers over the Rams. Currently, the Packers enjoy a 50-47-2 advantage over the Rams. But if the Rams win this one, the team inches closer to parity.

The Rams do get some passive boosts in Week 5. For starters, any home game affords the team the comforts of home field advantage. That is a huge deal for a young team struggling to find any success. Bu there is the added benefits of time zone difference.. The Packers will take the football field at approximately 1:00 pm PT, which will fell like 3:00 pm CT. That may not seem like a huge deal, but it means that they will be competing at a time of day when they are typically calling it a day.

But wait, there's more.

The weather forecast at kickoff is 82 degrees Fahrenheit with light wind gusts of up to eight miles per hour. That is a full 20 degrees hotter than the temperatures left behind at Green Bay, Wisconsin. And unless you are prepared for that rapid temperature rise, that can be quite challenging at any athletic event.

Time & Channel for Packers vs Rams

  • Date: Sunday, October 6
  • Time: 1:25 pm PT
  • Location: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA
  • Channel: CBS Sports

The LA Rams are home underdogs, and the team has not shown a lot of fight to change the opinions of oddsmakers. But will that change with the team playing in its second home game of the season? Perhaps with the team making roster moves, the tide will turn in the Rams' favor.

For now, the Rams host another tough NFC opponent who has found remarkable success against them of late. But as we witnessed in Week 3, the LA Rams is full of surprises.
