Don't ignore Rams DB depth

Perhaps the biggest oversight from John Kosko in his article is his insistence on focusing his article on two players, with a nonchalant comment about newly drafted rookie DB Kamren Kinchens. Yes, if the LA Rams had just three players competing for two starting roles, that would be a weak positional group. If not for the talent level, then most certainly for the lack of depth at the position.

So let's be proactive and cite the players who are competing for playing time at the safety position this year:

If you are tempted to sleep on Quentin Lake in 2024, don't. He has been getting a lot of positive press and is Pro Football Focus's Rams Breakout player of 2024. Curiously, in the article about Lake, the author admits that he struggled in his rookie season, but roared back in Year 2 to set the stage to drop jaws and raise eyebrows in NFL circles this year.

But don't make the mistake of viewing rookies or even players who have little NFL experience as having no chance to make an impact in 2024. There are any number of scenarios that could result in mid-season promotions for any player on the roster.

While I won't claim that this group is the strongest group of safeties in the NFL on paper for the 2024 NFL season, I will defend them from any claims of being the runt of the litter this season. This is a solid group of passionate players that will perform well when the bell rings. And in a few months, that bell will ring.
