With the 19th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft
With the team searching for young and passionate pass rushers in the 2024 NFL Draft, the first step towards that goal is to select Jared Verse, edge rusher, out of Florida State. On some draft boards, Verse is a Top-10 prospect. On others, merely a Day 1 prospect. But on all draft boards, he is a passionate and formidable pass rusher who is more likely than not to get to opposing quarterbacks.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 258 pounds, he is the runner-up to UCLA's Laiatu Latu, and he may push past Latu on some boards. Because the 2024 NFL Draft is headlined by quarterbacks, offensive tackles, wide receivers, defensive backs, and even a tight end, edge rushers may not come off the board as early as some positions.
All of which plays right into the LA Rams hand.
Verse is a twitchy, overpowered pass rusher who has a complete arsenal of rush moves to get after the quarterback. And he does, putting up 9.0 quarterback sacks in each of his two seasons with the Seminoles. He does much of his damage behind the line of scrimmage, as he also average 15.0 tackles for a loss in the past two seasons.
"He really sees the game well and he has got the athleticism to go with it. I think he will be one of the best defensive players to come out of this draft."NFL Executive
He has the size to bulk up, and that may be a wise option, as he will need to improve his durability to compete at a much more physical level over a long 17-game season. He will likely stay on the edge as an outside linebacker, but he does have the physicality and the refinement to have an excellent rookie season. Now, what about a defensive lineman?
