Rams 7-round 2024 NFL Mock Draft after Aaron Donald retires
By Bret Stuter
With the 52nd pick of the 2024 NFL Draft
The LA Rams need a muscle man to slide into the defensive line and Ruke Orhorhoro, a defensive tackle out of Clemson, fits the bill nicely. He is another 6-foot-4 294-pound powerhouse whose performance at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine boosted his stock considerably.
He is still improving as a football player, which is why he falls to the Rams at 52. But he is strong, quick footed, has powerful club hands for a defensive tackle, and has a wide range of skillsets that allow him to slide anywhere on the three-man defensive line. He is quicker than fast, but keep in mind that he raced a 4.89-second 40-yard dash at the combine.
He has enough burst out of the blocks to put up a formidable pass rush from anywhere on the defensive front. That is an attribute that is critical for this defense to ensure adherence to.
Because the Rams have not had to face offenses without Aaron Donal for 10 years, there is going to be a lot of experimentation by mixing and matching to find an optimal blend of strength, pass rush, and containment. Complicating the matter is the fact that Chris Shula is the new Defensive Coordinator and Giff Smith is the new Defensive Line Coach.
Orhorhoro gives both new coaches not only a brick to assemble a solid wall, but his versatility allows them to use him as mortar to fill in spaces between the bricks. He can be an instant rotational player who can earn a great role as he grows in this defense and earns more defensive snaps.
