Rams can no longer run and hide from rookie weapons as it's on them for Week 3

They're young. They're hungry. And they may be the LA Rams last hope to salvage the 2024 NFL season.

Rookie WR Jordan Whittington

The LA Rams fit for rookie WR Jordan Whittington may be obvious. But his workload has been anything but that of a solid wide receiver fit. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 202 pounds, Whittington is a solid hybrid between an NFL wide receiver and tight end. Much like former Rams WR Ben Skowronek, Whittington has the physicality and power to be a huge factor in this offense, if given some targets.

So the truth of the matter is that he simply needs a larger role in this offense. Well, don't look now, but I expect it's happening in Week 3. After all, the guy caught both passes thrown his way for 22 receiving yards. That may be a small sample size, but its the total number of targets so far. Until the number of targets increases, that is as good as it will get.

But Jordan Whittington is not some NFL rookie diva who thinks that professional football is an oyster and he is the guy to shuck it for the pearl of great price. He is a blue-collar mindset, a guy who seeks out ways to help out the team, sometimes at the expense of individual accolades and achievements.

But it's that mindset that makes him ideally suited for Week 3 heroics.

The LA Rams are running out of options in the passing game. But this is not a weaponless offense. The Rams have the veteran savvy of both Tyler Johnson and Demarcus Robinson. There is the upside of speedy WR Tutu Atwell, who can easily put up huge chunks of yardage if he gets hot. But the one offensive weapon who is unaccounted for in Week 3 is rookie Jordan Whittington. He is the type of receiver who can get the tough yardage necessary to move the chains and help the team control the clock.

Jordan Whittington is due for a big game in Week 3.
