Rams Draft update: With new comp pick, team armed to teeth for the 2024 NFL Draft

With another comp pick anticipated due to the hiring of DC Raheem Morris as the HC of the Atlanta Falcons, the Rams are bursting 2024 draft picks. In fact, this is the best arsenal the team has ever had for GM Les Snead and HC Sean McVay

The LA Rams have never had it so good. Well, not for a very long time, it seems. Since the Rams hired Sean McCay to become the new head coach of the LA Rams, GM Les Snead has built a roster to McVay's specifications without the aid of a first-round pick in the NFL Draft. The team did hold a late first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft but opted to trade back in that draft twice, ultimately selecting University of Washington safety Taylor Rapp with the 61st overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

But even if the Rams do trade back in Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft, nobody expects the team to abandon Day 1 altogether. And for good reason, as the LA Rams are now projected to enter the 2024 NFL Draft with 11 picks.

Not just eleven picks, but four picks in the Top 100 selections made in the 2024 NFL Draft. That is a huge arsenal, and one the Rams have not enjoyed since the team united GM Les Snead with HC Sean McVay, Just as a reminder the first pick for the team in the 2022 NFL Draft did not take place until the 104th overall selection. By the 104th overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Rams will have selected four times, at 19, at 52, at 83, and at 100.

To recap the LA Rams picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, as per Tankathon on February 16, 2024, the Rams hold the following picks

  1. 19th overall - Round 1
  2. 52nd overall - Round 2
  3. 83rd overall - Round 3
  4. 98th overall - Round 3 (comp pick)
  5. 153rd overall - Round 5
  6. 154th overall - Round 5 (via Pittsburgh)
  7. 191st overall - Round 6 (via Denver)
  8. 209th overall- Round 6 (comp pick)
  9. 213th overall - Round 6 (comp pick)
  10. 217th overall - Round 6 (comp pick)
  11. 254th overall - Round 7 (comp pick)

How strong is the team's complement of 2024 draft picks? Per Tankathon, the Rams enter the 2024 NFL Draft with the seventh most valuable draft picks in the league. That is pretty spectacular for a team that just finished the 2023 NFL season with a record of 10-7. Let's list Tankathon's Top 10 teams for the 2024 NFL Draft (As per the Harvard Sports Analytics Collective):

  1. Arizona Cardinals - 1468.5
  2. Washington Commanders - 1232.9
  3. Chicago Bears - 1154.3
  4. New York Giants - 985.9
  5. Green Bay Packers - 975.0
  6. New England Patriots - 940.6
  7. Los Angeles Rams - 915.7
  8. Los Angeles Chargers - 907.5
  9. Atlanta Falcons - 904.5
  10. Philadelphia Eagles - 880.3

Only two teams will not step up to the podium on Day 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft, and they are the Cleveland Browns and the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers traded their 2024 Round 1 pick to the Bears to pick first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, ultimately selecting QB Bryce Young. The Bears hauled in the Panthers first and second round picks in 2023, a first round pick in 2024, and a second round pick in 2025, as well as WR D.J. Moore.

The Browns traded their 2024 first round pick as part of the package to acquire Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson.

The Rams may opt to trade back to acquire a pick in Round 4, as the team faces a 53 pick gap between Round 3 and the middle of Round 5. The Rams may also be interested in trading back from Round 6 to acquire picks in Round 7 as well.
