The Los Angeles Rams exceed most people's expectations in 2023, finishing their regular season on a 7-1 stretch to clinch a playoff berth and then almost upsetting the Detroit Lions in the opening round.

With that being said, they were never in the conversation to win the NFC West due to a 3-6 start to the year and the San Francisco 49ers being the clear best team in the conference. 2024 is a new year and with the Rams now being looked at as a legitimate playoff contender, do the oddsmakers think they can make a run at the NFC West?

Not exactly. Let's dive into the latest odds to win the division and then I'll break down what the Rams need to do to usurp the 49ers.

Rams underdogs to 49ers in NFC West odds

Only the Kansas City Chiefs are bigger favorites to win their division than the San Francisco 49ers, who are set at -220 to win the NFC West. If you translate those odds to implied probability oddsmakers believe San Francisco has a 68.75% of winning the division for the third-straight season.

The good news is the Rams are second on the odds list. The bad news is they're listed with long odds at +420. If you were to bet $100 on them to win the division, you'd win a profit of $420 if they're able to take down the 49ers.

The Seattle Seahawks (+750) and Arizona Cardinals (+1100) are a distant third and fourth.

Not many people would argue the Rams should be favored in the division, but the question is whether or not they should be as big of underdogs as their odds indicate. They were the hottest team in the NFL in the second half of the season and beat some impressive teams along the way, including only losing in overtime to the top seed in the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens.

The Rams also got the better of the 49ers in Week 18, but both teams were resting the majority of their starters.

The Rams need some help to revamp their defense, but their offense is one of the best in the NFL when they get rolling. Between Kyren Williams and Puka Nacua, they had two of the most surprising players in the league last season and when everyone is healthy, it's a unit that's as lethal as any other.

If you think the Rams can take another step forward and the 49ers take even just a small step back in 2024, the Rams are a great dark horse bet to win their division at their current odds.
