Can't count out RB Blake Corum
Coach McVay truly heaps praise on his former Wolverines rookie running back, Blake Corum. McVay singles out Corum as a player on offense who he has been very pleased with:
"On the offensive side, I have been pleased with a lot of guys, but Blake Corum has really stood out. (He is) Mature beyond his years. I love the way that he handles himself. I love even more how when there have been a couple of things that did not go the way we wanted, how he responded the next play. The mental toughness that you see from him. (RB Coach) Ron Gould is excellent with that room. Even (RB) Kyren (Williams) in his own way has done such a great job of imparting a certain amount of wisdom with him.”"Rams HC Sean McVay
Just to recap, the Rams say veteran running back Kyren Williams through OTAs and mandatory mini camp due to a minor injury. That development opened the barn door for rookie RB Blake Corum to get a lot of reps and coaching attention throughout OTAs and the mandatory mini camp so far. It's clear from the amount and intensity of praise from Coach McVay that they are more than pleased with their rookie running back.
Maturity and passion are not buzz words coming out of the mouth of Coach McVay. Those are sacred attributes that he reserves for only most promising rookies on the roster, and he used both terms to applaud the early returns from his rookie running back.
We cited Corum's outstanding OTAs performance in a recent article, an article that described his work so far as far beyond that of a player who will open the season on the bench. And with so many positive displays already, I'm not convinced that he will set out in Week 1. If anything, he could share the workload with featured RB Kyren Williams.
It seems as though there is not much happening to get excited about from the Rams workouts so far. But I suggest that the very impressive Rams draft is simply delivering very impressive performances at OTAs. Since reality matches the expectations of most fans, nothing is jumping off the page because nothing is surprising or shocking.
Everything is going according to plan, and that is a very good thing. We will continue to address the performances of players, do some feature articles covering all 2024 Rams rookies, and even take a look back at some of the best players at positions to don The Horns.
As always, thank you for reading.
