Rams land one of the Top-3 RBs in this draft at 215
By Bret Stuter
When the LA Rams stepped up to the 2023 NFL Draft podium to make there selection with the 215th overall pick, there was not a lot of excitement or enthusiasm over the possibility of who the team might select there. In hindsight, perhaps there should have been?
After all, with the 215th selection of the 2023 NFL Draft, the LA Rams selected one of the Top 3 running backs in this draft class. That's just crazy, isn't it? When teams enter the sixth round of any NFL Draft, even the more optimistic general managers acquiesce to the fact that they will likely only land players whose only hope to make the roster is to do incredibly well on special teams.
And yet, Mississippi running back Zach Evans was there, and the LA Rams were more than happy to make him their 11th rookie added in this draft. Now, let's share why his is worth getting excited over.
Per NFL.com, he was the third best running back in the 2023 NFL Draft. Per NFL Draft Buzz, he was the ninth-best running back in the 2023 NFL Draft. But why tell you when I can show you? Just check out the video below to get a taste of what this young man brings to the LA Rams offense.
Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 202- pounds, Zach Evans does not look to be a running back with a 6.9-yard per run career average. Yet, whether by carrying the football out of the offensive backfield or by catching the pass as a receiver, magical moments happen when his hands get that pigskin.
He put up over 1000 combined offensive yards in 2022, and scored 10 touchdowns. One draft profile says that he is the type of runner who can punish defensive perimeters. Another draft profile states that his wheelhouse is running between the tackles. But virtually all draft profiles tout his ability to start, stop, and pivot on a dime, and all agree that he is a three-down lead back.
All at 215? Who would have guessed?
