If you want to get a bullseye perspective for the LA Rams in terms of the best talent and fit of the quarterback prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft for this offense, why settle for NFL Insiders, draft analysts, pundits, and talking heads? Why not go straight for the most qualified person who can understand what the position and the offense demands? It is in that interest that we posed the question to LA Rams legendary quarterback Jim Everett. In short, we asked:

"Who is your favorite quarterback prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft in terms of talent and fit for the Rams offense?"
Ramblin fan to Jim Everett

So what makes Everett qualified to answer that question? Well, he is the current record holder among the Rams Franchise All-Time Passing leaders, with 23,758 passing yards. He also holds second place among All-Time passing touchdown leaders with 142 touchdowns. He accomplished all of that in just eight seasons with the team.

So he has some insight into what the position requires in a rookie prospect, and is uniquely qualified to weigh in on the topic. So who is his top quarterback prospect for the team?

Washington quarterback Michael Penix.

That's right, Michael Penix.

Ultimately, it takes a G.O.A.T. to recognize a future G.O.A.T. And Jim Everett has a solid argument backed up with facts for his interest in Penix in this draft class. After all, Michael Penix stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 216 pounds, a solid size for an NFL quarterback. He is a traditional pocket passer, which means that he must rely on his offensive line and throwing arm to win games.

In his final two seasons with the Washington Huskies, Penix has completed 725 of 1109 passes for 9,544 yards, 67 touchdowns and just 19 interceptions. He has been one of quarterback prospects who simply is not getting as much love as the Top-4 in this draft (Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy) but he has true NFL starter in his skillset.

Will the Rams select him in the 2024 NFL Draft? The front office has to be aware of the risks of veteran QB Matthew Stafford facing injury or even retiring after the 2024 season, and Penix fits the bill as the natural successor for Stafford in the future.

In the end, it comes down to who can you trust? Jim Everett is the best quarterback the team has ever had in terms of passing yards, so he can be trusted. He likes Washington QB Michael Penix, and that is good enough for me.
