Rams vs. Lions: Breaking down the announcers for Wild Card game
The Los Angeles Rams will take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday night. It'll be the first time that Matthew Stafford has been back to Ford Field since the Lions traded him to Los Angeles ahead of the 2021 season.
Stafford played the Lions during that 2021 season but the game took place in SoFi Stadium. The Rams won it 28-19 and dropped the Lions to 0-7 on the year while the Rams moved to 6-1. As we all know, the Rams went on to win the Super Bowl a few months later.
The Lions, on the other hand, went 3-13-1 during Dan Campbell's first season in the Motor City. Things have been going well for the Lions since then, as they won the NFC North for the first time since it's been known as the NFC North and they're the three-seed in the playoffs. With the Rams being the six-seed, the two will meet up and it should be an emotional game for both sides.
Not only is Stafford returning to a stadium where he played for the first 12 years of his career but Jared Goff is facing the team that spent a first overall pick on him in 2016. The quarterbacks swapped teams and it's appeared to work out well for both sides.
With such a highly anticipated match-up on tap, who gets the honor of calling this game?
Rams vs. Lions Wild Card announcers
With this game airing on NBC on Sunday night, we'll get the traditional Sunday Night Football broadcast crew on the call. That means it'll be Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, and Melissa Stark, as per usual. Tirico is actually calling the Chiefs/Dolphins game the night before as well so he'll have a quick turnaround between games.
It's no surprise that this game is in a marquee spot considering we have the Stafford playing in Detroit for the first time since the trade storyline. Hopefully the Rams can go into Detroit and pull off the upset.
